I grew up on the corner of Redland Avenue and Hall Steet in the big cream coloured house with the chocolate trim. My bunk bed overlooked the street and on summer nights, right outside my window, the wind and the giant poplar tree leaves would dance.

Every spring my Dad and I would spend two weeks at our cabin in the north. My parents built the cabin themselves, felling and peeling each log on site. In the morning, I would run to the rock, cast my line and catch breakfast. The spring I was 18, Dad and I were caught in a forest fire. The cabin was saved by water bomber, but the trees for miles around burned. I've never been back.

Lagoon, Mistusinne, SK

As a girl the lagoon was the place to catch frogs, sail boats and make sand castles. Later, the lagoon was the place to ride my motor bike, suntan and hang-out with boys. Today, the lagoon is place for hiking, respite and, most importantly, listening. Today, the lagoon is where I return to find center.

Mayo Clinic

When I was 19, during my first go around in Education at UBC, I got a headache. I was sick for long time. I don't remember a lot from those next years, only my extraodinary Mom! During the last trip to the clinic, I learned to live.

Grenfell High Community School

Early during my Ed program, I had the opportunity to visit Grenfell High. I spent some time with students and staff in an alternative education program designed to fit student needs. I began my Inclusive Education Certificate that spring. Later on, I had another chance to work with kids at John Chisholm High School in Moose Jaw.

I was sitting in the hallway outside the Dean’s office, third-floor, with a few of my middle-years cohort, in a literature circle group, planning a carnival. Somewhere between the talk about twinkle lights and the reaching up to take a book... :)
